Quartier Latin 2-hour Walking Tour
The tour starts near the Pantheon in the heart of the Quartier Latin (Latin Quarter).
Then, we go to Luxembourg Garden, considered one of Europe’s most beautiful gardens. In the garden stands “Le Senat” (French High Chamber) in a palace commissioned by Queen Marie de Medicis at the beginning of the 17th century.
The tour then continues with the Odéon (A theater inaugurated by Queen Marie Antoinette), the Sorbonne Chapel, and the Hôtel de Cluny.
Then come the Saint-Michel, Saint-Germain Boulevards, and the ancient Roman Baths of Paris.
The flamboyant Gothic Hôtel de Cluny, now the French National Museum of the Middle Ages, was once the city residence in Paris of the renowned and powerful Cluny Order.
During our tour of the Latin Quarter, we will also see two impressive churches: Saint-Séverin, renowned for its five naves and its palm tree pillar, and Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre, the third-oldest church in Paris after Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Saint-Pierre de Montmartre.
Close to Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre church, we will also discover the oldest tree in Paris, a Locust planted in 1601. This North American tree is called in French « Robinier », from Jean Robin, the King’s botanist and arborist, who introduced it to France.
Our itinerary will also pass by the iconic Shakespeare & Co. bookstore and conclude near Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Quartier Latin Extended (2.5-hours) Walking Tour
The extended tour is essentially the same as the two-hour tour, but with an additional section covering the area between Place Monge and Place de l’Odéon. This part of our Quartier Latin tour primarily focuses on the Place de la Contrescarpe and the beginning of rue Mouffetard, renowned for its concentration of cafés and restaurants characteristic of the district, which is usually full of young people and students.
The extra walk includes:
- Remains of Lutetia (ancient Roman Paris) arena and theatre.
- Remains of 13th-century Ancient Wall of Paris
- One of the places where Ernest Hemingway was staying when living in Paris
- Lycée Henri VI and former Sainte-Geneviève Abbey location
- Saint-Etienne-du-Mont Church
- Ministère de l’Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche
- Historical site of École Polytechnique (most famous French Grande École)
View of the Pantheon, which makes the transition between the 2.5-hour and 2-hour tour itinerary.
Latin Quarter Guided Tour Reviews
Never Disappoints!
Yves never disappoints! This is now the third time we’ve hired him to take us around for a tour that has exceeded expectations each time. We’d been with him in Orleans and done a tour of Saint Germain des Pres in Paris, but this time around, after having researched his new tour of our own neighborhood, the Quartier Latin, we were left really pleased. Yves manages to incorporate many different artistic movements with the political and economic winds of the time to tell a great, cohesive story for wherever we’ve gone with him. I can’t recommend him highly enough!
