Best and Most Memorable Tour of my Five Weeks in France

Our guided tour by Yves was fantastic! Although I spent five weeks in France and went on numerous tours in Paris, Bayeux, Mont Saint Michel, Tours, Amboise, Lyon and Sancerre, the tour that Yves gave us was the most memorable and very best of all the tours I had during that time.

He gave me and my two adult daughter a guided tour of the city of Orleans. Yves is so knowledgeable, friendly and helpful that our tour was wonderful. Yves pointed out details that very few people would even know about. Instead of just pointing things out, he gently quizzed us, further piquing our interest in what we were seeing. We went through the cathedral where he explained the symbolism of the architectural details.

Yves’ English is perfect, making everything easy to understand.

Best Orléans choice: The Museum of Fine Arts with Yves, Licensed Louvre Tour Guide!

Orléans is not only a city in the Loire Valley with an incredible Renaissance heritage and a fantastic cathedral. Orleans is also one of the most interesting French fine arts museums outside of Paris.

The Orleans Museum of Fine Arts is smaller than the Louvre, but it has many advantages: no crowds, no risk of getting lost in kilometers of galleries to walk through, etc.

Orleans boasts a vibrant and extensive collection of paintings spanning from the 16th to the 19th centuries.

You can visit this great Museum with an experienced Louvre tour guide at a tremendous rate. If you know nothing about fine art or want to refresh your knowledge, this is a great opportunity!

Visit of Orléans… What Else After? What to See Around?

After you visit Orléans, there are a lot of discovery possibilities around the city:

The most extensive French national forest, Sologne’s ponds, Orléans AOC vineyard, bike route along the Loire River, historical places, etc., and Loire Valley castles. The choice is extensive, starting with the most famous Château de Chambord. At less than 50 kilometers east of Orléans are also the renowned city of Blois with the famous Blois Royal Castle, or the castle of Cheverny, which was taken as a model for the world- famous Belgian comics Tintin.

The Loire Valley, in the east of Orléans, is also an interesting spot, clearly less crowded than the western part; it is nevertheless on the Unesco listing with three major sites:

  • Abbey Church of Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire (+/- 35 km)
  • Carolingian Oratory of Germigny-des-prés(+/- 30 km)
  • and Fairytale-like Château de Sully-sur-Loire (+/- 42 km).

Our dedicated page highlights the top attractions to visit in the area after visiting Orléans.

The Sully-sur-Loire Castle

The still-watered moat of the castle gives the place a great charm. Joan of Arc stayed twice in the medieval fortress. Meanwhile, the Dukes of Sully later extended the castle with new constructions.

Our guided tour of the Sully-sur-Loire Castle showcases not only its history but also its impressive collection of oil paintings, tapestries, and furniture.

Joan of Arc Comes Alive – A Fantastic Tour for All Ages

Apr 2025 • Family
We had an amazing tour in Orléans focused on Joan of Arc, and it was one of the highlights of our trip! Yves was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging, bringing Joan’s story to life in such a captivating way. He made the experience especially memorable for our ten-year-old daughter, who is very interested in Joan of Arc. He took the time to connect with her, answer her questions, and make the tour exciting for her. It was clear he really cared about making history meaningful and fun for everyone. We all walked away very impressed and greatful—highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Orléans!

Joan of Arc / Orléans

What can I say about Yves? He is the absolute best. He is very considerate of his audience and he genuinely wants you to have a great experience. He went above and beyond for our tour.
He answered all of our questions (even the ones we thought weren’t a big deal turned out to be very informative). Yves also did a great job of weaving the history and importance of Orleans into this tour. I feel like we could’ve hung out with him all day. We can’t wait to visit Orleans again! Highly, highly recommended.

Orléans in English

We had a splendid tour of Orleans and the St. Croix cathedral with Yves. He is incredibly knowledgeable and informative, and a charming and engaging guide. Yves is an expert not only in the history of the city, but also its architecture, art and culture. His astute commentary gave context to the art that surrounded us, placing the role of Joan of Arc within its political and historical role in the city.
Highly recommend Broaden Horizons!!

Great Tour in Orléans
“Visit Orleans in the Loire Valley was a great moment, the city as an impressive diverse heritage. The city center is very nice and clean with all its white newly restored historical buildings. If we have a nice memory of Orléans, it is also the case of the guided tour we did there with Yves. One of the better guide we ever had. His Orléans tour is excellent : precise and knowledgeable. We highly recommande.”
